Overview

Tired of ticking boxes? Feeling that you’re not getting a chance to spread your commercial wings? This might be just the role for you!

We’re looking for a qualified/Chartered Accountant, ready to jump into a value-adding client-facing role, within an ambitious, growing firm!

Application deadline: Friday 22nd March 2024.

The role

Over the next 5 years, we’re going to be growing our company significantly. You will play a key role in the technical compliance of the work we do for clients.

Ideally, you will have spent at least 5 years in an accounting firm already, and be sitting at Manager level or above. You will be responsible for reviewing the work of more junior members of the team, and ensuring work is client-ready.

You will then be responsible for meeting with clients to discuss the key aspects of financial and non-financial performance within their business. We meet with all our clients at least once per quarter, so you’ll be able to have a very close working relationship with your clients’ businesses.

You’ll work closely with our client FD, to ensure we’re delivering commercially valuable advice, which remains compliant with all the UK accounting and tax rules.

You will be reportable to the director of the firm. Over time, will have an increasing number of more junior members of the team reportable to you.

Using our new base at The Old Library, you will also get the opportunity to feed into the development of our firm. Helping navigate the firm’s growth and outreach to new clients across the UK, and helping them see the value which CRC can truly add!

We are open to you being based outside Orkney, and would bring you to the island on a regular basis for client meetings. For example, other remotely-based senior members of the team have travelled to Orkney for around one week per month.

However, being based in Orkney on a permanent basis would be preferred, so a relocation package could be negotiated.

  • 5% Employers Pension
  • Private Health Insurance (can be extended to your immediate family)

  • Reviewing annual statutory accounts and corporation tax.
  • Investigating and responding to technical accounting queries.
  • Primary relationship owner for a portfolio of clients - holding regular meetings with those clients.

Qualifications and skills

  • An accountancy qualification (CA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of relevant post-qualification experience in a small to mid sized practice.

About CRC

The accounting industry is due a shake up!

We’re a fully-digitised firm, focussed on working with businesses turning over between £500k+ and £5m.

Technical excellence, and robust compliance is a given – this is what clients expect from any firm. Our focus instead, is how we make a real difference to our clients and their teams.

We are a mixed of practice-trained, and industry-sharpened, accounting and financial experts. We use our unique combination of financial and technical knowledge, and passion for delving into the non-financials, to bring new insights to our business clients and their teams.

We’re award-nominated at a National level several times over. And with clients all across Scotland – and the wider UK – we have big ambitions to grow our national presence over the next few years.

The development of AI doesn’t frighten us. In fact, we’re fully looking to embrace it.

At CRC, we love bringing people together. We’re huge believers in the value which can be gained from being in-person with our clients – ensuring that we truly understand them and their business, and that our messages are resonating.

So despite our seemingly-remote location in Orkney – the development of our new premises at The Old Library (a 115 year old former public library) is very much being done by design.

This beautiful space will be a destination space for our clients from across the UK, where we’ll host workshops and development sessions, with them and their teams.

Our building will also be a 30+ person co-working and events space, which we’ll share with other local freelancers and businesses. So it’s going to be far from a dull, stuffy office! There will also be 2 x brand new, modern, one-bedroom apartments, ready to be used as both staff and client accommodation.

We’re currently well through construction, and are due to open in late Spring.

The first few years since CRC was founded have been exciting. But we’re even more excited about what’s to come!

Nearly ready! Our new offices!
