We’re growing (which is great)! And to see us continue this, we’re now looking for the next member of Team CRC!

If you’re an ambitious, commercially-savvy numbers wizard, read on…..this might just be for you!

The headline points

  • The role: Senior Finance Controller/Finance Director
  • The salary: DoE
  • The hours: our FTE is 35 per week. Ideally, you'll be able to join us full time. But if you can do at least 3 days per week, that’s cool – we’ll still consider having you in the mix! Either way, you’ll get some decent holidays each year!
  • The location: we’re based in Orkney, but you don’t have to be. We’re flexi between the office and home (3:2 days per week, respectively)
  • The clients: typically between £500k-£5m turnover per annum, UK-based, and facing a super interesting mix of challenges for us to advise upon!
  • Application deadline: Sunday 17th October 2021.

Here's a video to see what this is all about!

Intrigued? Cool, let’s dive into the detail

So what exactly is the role?

In summary, we work as the external Finance Director to our clients.

As you can see from our Core Values, helping create businesses which our clients’ staff love being part of is everything we stand for!

This takes investment – both in terms of time and money. So it’s our job to ensure our clients are working efficiently, and profitably, so that we can help them grow their business whilst creating an engaged and empowered team who collectively get to drive that journey!

The main duties we perform include:

  • Regular management reporting – covering both financial and non-financial KPI’s
  • Cashflow forecasting
  • Target setting and strategy development sessions
  • Organisational review consultancy
  • Systems and process efficiency consultancy

Oh, and we also happen to throw in the annual accounts & tax returns along the way.

You’ll be getting stuck into the challenges faced by these businesses, and work closely with them to identify and communicate the solutions they – and their teams – require.

You’ll mainly work with clients online – phone, email, Zoom, cloud accounting systems, etc. But from time to time, you’ll also be required to lead face-to-face meetings and development sessions with clients. Any training and guidance you need on this will of course be given before we fire you in!

What qualifications do I need?

Put simply; none.

If you’re a Chartered Accountant, that’s cool. If you’re a Chartered Management Accountant, that’s also cool. If you’re a Chartered Tax Advisor, hey even better still.

However, clients fundamentally don’t pay us for the letters after our name. They engage with us for the value we can deliver to them and their business.

Therefore, so long as you have the following in abundance, we’ll be interested in hearing from you:

  • Numbers savvy, and very commercially aware
  • A keen eye for spotting a solution/different way to tackle a problem
  • Able to clearly communicate potentially complex points in a concise manner
  • A willingness to challenge and be challenged!

Who will I be working with?

Meet the CRC squad here!

We know; that’s probably enough to make you want to apply straight away! But read on - there’s more…

Where did you film that video?

This was filmed in 42 Junction Road, our future new home!

We’re going through the Planning Application at the moment, and will be developing this over the next couple of years. A beautiful space, which will be our headquarters for growth, as well as being shared with the local business community as a co-working space.

We have tonnes of ideas about what this place will become, and you’ll get to feed into all of that!

Find out more about this project here.

How do I apply?

It’s a simple two-parter.

  1. Send us a copy of your CV (the easy bit)
  2. Send us a video introducing yourself (the interesting bit!)

A video?! What?!

Don’t worry. You don’t need to go all Spielberg on us. We just want to get to know you a bit!

As a senior member of our team, you’ll get expected to be client-facing right from the off. Many of our meetings happen with clients online these days, and we also send videos out to clients running through every piece of work, prior to the meeting. Clients are finding these invaluable, so it’s super important that you’re comfortable with these!

To help guide you through your vid, we’d like the following points covered:

  • Who you are - we at least need a name, so we know who we're looking at!
  • Work background – what you’ve enjoyed about your career so far
  • Why CRC? What’s the reason for applying?
  • Hobbies and stuff you like – work/life balance is important. What else do you get up to?
  • Ad lib - tell us a joke, something interesting, go rogue! Basically, we're a tight knit team here, and we want to get to know the real you!

And please keep it to less than 10 minutes. Whilst we’ll love hearing from you, we’ll save the detail to the interview stages!

How do I get my video & CV to you?

The easiest way is through WeTransfer.

Using WeTransfer, send everything to calvin@crcaccountancy.co.uk.

We'll be able to securely download your documents at this end, and can take it all from there!

What’s the future like at CRC?

We have big plans, and even bigger ideas.

But these aren’t being driven from me the top. This is a team effort, and a collective approach. You’ll be integral to the future direction of this firm, and helping shape your own future and the future of everyone we work with.

We've had some recognition as a firm already, but that was just the start...

We know what we (as a firm) want to represent within the accounting industry. But as to how we achieve it – well, that’s the exciting bit. We’ll keep trying, developing, and refining, until we get there!
